Kaoru is often described as a strong and willful woman. All this is true, of course. It is most evident in her violent attacks on Kenshin and the rest of the gang at the dojo.
Inside, however, she has a kind heart and shares the idealistic view that Kenshin does: the sword should be used for protecting people and not killing. These two also share a special love for each other, though they never quite come out and say it (or at least I haven't seen it yet). Unlike the aggravating "romance" between Ranma and Akane, the two realize that he or she loves the other---they just need to say it out loud. And that is something I'm looking forward to. ^_^
